Weekend of dancing

We got home from Valencia around 6:00 on Friday night.  Even though I was extremely exhausted I felt it was necessary to go out for some drinks.  Jourdan and I met up with some people at a bar called Le Cyrano.  It is only open 2 nights a week and it was extremely crowded.  The reason it is so popular is because you can order either a 3 or 4 euro drink and they give you a glass with some ice cubes, a bottle of liquor, and a bottle of soda.  I got a 3 euro gin and a bottle of tonic.  So after they give you everything you make your own drink and give the liquor back, so you can make it as strong as you want and get the most bang for your buck.  I enjoyed the place and there were a lot of locals there.  Actually when we were outside waiting for some people, next to us were three girls.  Two were Spanish and the other was German, but they were talking in English together.  I thought it was very interesting and it shows that most people can understand a little bit of English.  Since that bar was full, we decided to go up the street to a place called the Smokey Dog.  This was also a cheap place where you could get 2 shots and a beer, or 2 beers and a shot for 5 euros.  They were also playing the tennis match with Nadal.  I also ran into someone from UNH who is studying in Barcelona who lives right above the bar.  While at this bar we just hung out and talked about plans for spring break.  There seemed to be a general consensus to go to Greece and some of the girls had already booked a cruise for like 5 days.  I don't know if I want to do a cruise, although it would be a lot of fun, because it is very limiting and doesn't give you the option to be spontaneous.  And the dates don't match up to what I want to do.

The next day, Saturday, we slept in and didn't do much.  I went for a short run around 2 but then just relaxed until dinner.  Our RA invited all of his students over for dinner.  We brought a meat called Fuet, and some cheese and bread.  Some other people brought wine, and others brought more food.  I enjoyed meeting some of his other students, some of whom I had already met.  We hung out for a few hours, drinking out of the Porron and getting to know each other.  Our RA is 28 years old named Enric.  I talked to him for a while about the area he lived in, which was the same as we were in on Friday night, and other things like social norms in Spain.  He is very approachable and I feel like I could ask him anything and he would happily answer my questions.

Saturday night my friend texted me and told me that they were going Salsa dancing.  I had wanted to do that and was actually day dreaming about it before I got the invite so I jumped on the opportunity.  It was also about 5 blocks away from Enric's apartment.  I had learned how to Salsa a few years ago in Costa Rica, but I was really rusty and forgot how to do it.  Luckily some of the girls knew how and it quickly came back to me.  When we got there, the place was almost empty.  This was the perfect opportunity for some practice before it got crowded and I started stepping on peoples feet.  Within an hour or two, the place was packed.  They also switched to a more reggae-ton style dance music and it turned into more of a discotec.  Apparently Thursday and Friday are more of salsa nights.  When we finally left around 2:30 there was a line out the door and around the corner, and almost everyone was Spanish or Latin American.  They also have lessons there but it is like 120 euros for 10 classes so I think we will pass.

I have class right no so I need to run but I will post about my bike tour on Sunday and our plans for the future after class
